Paul Wagler grew up in Ohio in a farming family. Overcoming a severe handicap from Polio, he achieved high scholastic honours which resulted in a scholarship to Harvard University. After graduation in 1970, he started a banking career with Chase (now JP Morgan Chase) on Wall Street. From there he moved to Germany, and then joined Bank of Montreal in Vancouver. In 1978 he started up a western Canadian office for ABN AMRO, a European based global bank. His banking career gave him financial experience with entrepreneurs and companies of all kinds.
In 1995 he joined The Loewen Group as Chief Financial Officer and subsequently became Chief Operating Officer with more than 15,000 employees reporting to him. In 2000 he moved to Art In Motion as Chief Operating Officer and a minority shareholder. He later became CEO and took the company public as an income trust before retiring in early 2005.
Paul and his wife Kathleen have four children and now live north of Vancouver on the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia. Paul has served on several boards, including Regent College and World Vision Canada and is an active community volunteer.
